SDWA April Regatta
7th April

I had to go to work the morning of the Regatta. Despite all the things I had to do I managed to get to Belmont Shore in good time to meet fellow SDWA racers. The conditions were perfect with 16 mph wind, bright sun shine, and nice temperature. Armando was a new comer. Peter Bonello took time to explain the course to all of us.  Despite being a local it took me a while to get used to the position of the windward mark. Peter was sailing really well as you would expect from a ex Olympic sailor! A kiter joined us. He was really fast downwind. It was a good battle for all of us. After 3 course races,  we set of to do a long distance race from Belmont Shore to Cabrillo Beach. We didn't quite make it all the way there as the wind started fading when we were out at sea, past the sea wall. We were about 5 or 6 miles
from the beach at that point. I thought we would get stuck at one point as the lulls got lighter and lighter. Luckily,  the wind picked up as we got closer to the beach.  It was nice to ride the long swell out at sea without slogging on the way home! Having dinner together at La Palapa,  was the icing on the cake for a beautiful day. Many thanks to the SDWA riders for making it all the way to Belmont Shore.
